There are a lot of diets out there. There is the infamous intermittent fasting, keto diet, the south beach diet, the paleo diet, and a host of other diets.
But, there is one diet that is on the rise and a lot of doctors and medical practitioners advocate the worldwide practice of it. I am referring to the Planetary Healthy Diet.
What is It?
The Planetary diet’s main goal is to help people cut back on eating a lot of foods that are unhealthy. Not only that but the foods they suggest that you do not eat could also help the planet as well (hence, the name of the diet).
Red meat has been consistently found out as the “bad” kind of meat simply because it can increase the development of different health conditions such as heart attacks, strokes, some forms of cancer and in a Domino Effect aspect, premature ejaculation as well.
One popular example of red meat is the steak. The steak can be acquired from cattle and producing a lot of steaks from them would require a lot of natural resources.
To put it in perspective, you would need 28 times more land, 11 times more water, and about 6 times more fertilizer to raise cattle for its steaks and other meats compared to other sources of protein, like pork and poultry.
That being said, if you reduce red meat consumption, you will not only live a healthier life; you would also be saving mother Earth as well.
The diet also suggests that you eat the “good” kind of foods. Think about eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, beans, legumes, oats, cereals, whole-grain, and healthy proteins like poultry, eggs, etc.
Now, you might think that this is one of those “restriction” diets where you’re heavily restricted when it comes to what you eat and the portion sizes.
This diet is actually pretty good because you’re allowed to eat as much as 2,500 calories per day and you do not have to starve yourself for the vast majority of the day.
Furthermore, because you’re eating more “quality” calories, you will not only be in shape but you will also feel healthier as well. On top of that, you will have more energy than sticking with your old diet.
Aside from reducing red meat consumption, the diet also encourages people to lessen their processed foods, sugar, and salt intake.
Keep in mind that the diet only calls for the reduction of the consumption of the said foods. In other words, you can still eat red meat, processed foods, sugary, and salty foods, albeit in far lesser quantities.
A Global Initiative
For this diet to work, especially when it comes to saving the planet, it would require a global effort. People must make a conscious effort to consume healthier foods so that we can minimize the likelihood of obesity and malnutrition.
If we continue on with the diet, farms and other food manufacturers would think twice about cutting their production numbers in half. It will also help save the only planet that we can live in as well.
